Having a pet in the classroom provides many opportunities for learning.  Whether it be in science, math, art, reading, or writing, classroom animals can provide excitement to what might otherwise be an uninteresting subject to some students.  This is why Pets in the Classroom is excited that Pets Add Life will once again be providing teachers with the opportunity to spice up their writing curriculum through the 7th annual Children’s Poetry Contest!

The contest, open to children in grades 3-8, asks students to write a poem about a pet and the joys it brings for a chance to win:

– A $1,000 scholarship for each winning student’s classroom

– A $250 gift certificate for pet products

– A “by-line” in a nationally circulated magazine or online outlet

The deadline to enter is January 31, 2015, so there is plenty of time to incorporate it into your lesson plan!
